Great ecological responsibility. Without compromise.

From the start, the group feels bound to nature in all its production processes. Sustainable actions in harmony with nature has for generations stood for how the company manages its forestry resources.

As a long-standing and reliable partner to private and public forestry offices, the Delignit Group operates on the basis of sustainability in the procurement of its raw materials. A principle by which only as much wood is used as is re-grown in the forests.

This in particular means that the seedlings planted at the end of the 19 th century are harvested after around 120 years of growth for Delignit processing and production.

An ecological and sustainable cycle which today creates the foundations for tomorrow and thus secures the continuation of a quality of life for our children that none of us would wish to lose.

Wood as a pioneering construction material

As a material and a source of energy, wood is unique from an ecological point of view. Besides its special material properties and its particular aesthetic, wood as a renewable raw material is becoming more widely appreciated for its technical applications.

Particularly, beech-based Delignit materials are characterized by special technical and mechanical properties (e.g. abrasion- and wear-proof, dimension stability, breaking load). Beech is one of the toughest and strongest types of wood. Pound for pound, it only weighs 1/10 of construction steel but possesses 1/3 of its strength. Special processing and treatments can even make Delignit flame-resistant and bullet-proof.

And the use of wood as a substitute for products from non-renewable raw materials is an active contribution to climate protection. It reduces CO2 emissions from fossil fuels and helps protect the environment.

The use of wood. A valuable contribution to climate protection.

Forests may be regarded as chemical factories powered by the sun – trees use airborne carbon dioxide (CO2) and water and nutrients in the ground to grow wood, bark and leaves. And trees also produce oxygen (O2). Which is done without disturbance, waste or fumes, quietly, environmentally-friendly and entirely automatically. Forests also function as recreation areas and green lungs.

For each cubic metre of wood, trees filter around 900 kilograms of carbon dioxide from the air and store around 250 kilograms of this greenhouse gas. This means that European forests have stored more than 20 times the annual emissions of carbon dioxide. Forests and the wood extracted from them for further processing therefore constitute an important sink for this greenhouse gas.

By turning wood into particularly durable and thus long-lived Delignit components and systems, emissions from such products through rotting and incineration are delayed and the storage effect extended by the life span of the respective product.

FThe environmental balance sheet plays an important role for many of our customers where their products are concerned. When faced with a variety of application options using different materials, the sustainability of the Delignit product may sway the decision.

Proof of sustainability - SAQ

As part of the SAQ process (Self-Assessment-Questionnaire), the "drive sustainability" initiative regularly reviews and evaluates sustainability issues. A large number of the world's largest OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers) belong to the initiative.

The positive company ranking of Blomberger Holzindustrie GmbH confirms the high standards in areas such as corporate governance, environment, working conditions and human rights, supplier management, business ethics and responsible procurement.
